How to use this book

You will find several self-defence techniques described for the Walking Stick, Umbrella and Sjambok.

  • Read the whole book through, and then decide which of the weapons described seem to appeal to you best.

  • Choose perhaps two, maybe three techniques that seem to suit you.

  • Practise each technique carefully, trying to work out the why’s and wherefore’s of each.

  • Do this in sets of perhaps ten or better twenty at a time.

  • You will probably grasp the fundamentals in five minutes or so; but it could take five weeks or even more till you have sufficient understanding to be able to apply them in a mugging situation.

  • The more you practise the techniques, the safer you will become.

  • There are no short cuts: you simply must study and rehearse the various moves till they become second nature.

Fortunately the majority are straightforward and easily learnt.
